Before buying a replacement key fob

Check compatibility and the total scope before ordering a fob. A low purchase price is not useful if the part cannot provide the functions your vehicle requires.

Identify the actual part

Start with the vehicle year, make and model, then retain the existing fob’s accessible identifying information if available. Match the required electronics and application rather than the case outline or button count alone. Different versions can look similar. If a seller asks only whether the picture resembles your old key, that is not enough information to establish the exact replacement.

Ask what is included

Confirm whether the listing includes electronics, a battery and an emergency blade or only an empty shell. A shell may suit a damaged case when reusable components are intact, but it is not a complete replacement for missing electronics. Check whether cutting and programming are included anywhere in the offer. Ask about return conditions before a part is altered, cut or unsuccessfully programmed.

Check the service plan before paying

Have the proposed part reviewed by the provider who will perform the key work. Used or previously configured fobs require their own assessment; do not assume they can be reused for another vehicle. Explain whether a working key remains because that can affect the service request. Review fob replacement and car key programming together rather than treating an online part purchase as a completed vehicle-key solution.

Arrange the next step

Ask WVC Locksmith to assess the fob request with your vehicle details and the part information before buying. We can confirm the individual job and available service. Keep the seller’s description and packaging so the proposed component can be checked against what actually arrives.
