Arranging lock work after a break-in

Once the scene is safe and the appropriate authorities have been contacted, describe the damage before arranging lock work. A broken entrance may involve the door and frame as well as the lock.

Prioritize safe access to the property

Do not enter a place that appears unsafe or confront someone who may still be present. Follow the instructions of responding authorities and the person responsible for the property. Tell the locksmith whether the site has been released for work and whether the door can currently be closed. This guide covers preparing a repair request, not evidence handling or advice about an investigation.

Describe visible damage without dismantling it

Identify the affected opening, broken hardware, damaged frame and any missing keys. Explain whether you can secure another entrance. Keep photographs for the responsible parties if appropriate, but avoid sending private contents or security-system details in the initial form. A new cylinder may not restore an opening whose strike or frame has been damaged, so ask for the full condition to be assessed.

Separate immediate security from planned upgrades

Agree which work is needed to restore the intended locking function and which upgrades can be considered afterward. If a key was also lost or taken, mention the doors it operated. Related work may include lock repair, replacement and rekeying. Ask whether separate door or frame repair is required rather than assuming all damage falls within the locksmith scope.

Arrange the next step

Request an assessment from WVC Locksmith with the location, affected entrance and current security condition. We offer 24/7 service with availability checked for the job. Have an authorized person available to approve the proposed repair and any parts before changes begin.
