What to do when every car key is missing

Losing every vehicle key changes the service request. Tell the locksmith that no working spare remains so the parts, authorization and possible programming needs can be checked from the start.

Separate access from replacement

First establish whether the vehicle is locked and where it is parked. Opening a door does not automatically create a key that can start the vehicle. If belongings or documents are inside, mention that without attempting to force entry. A key that is merely unavailable until another person returns is also a different situation from a permanently missing set; describe which one applies.

Collect vehicle details securely

Prepare the year, make, model and key style if you remember it. An old purchase record or photograph of the fob may help identify the request, but appearance alone is not proof of compatibility. Ask which ownership documents are needed and how to provide them securely. Do not put a VIN, identity document or key code into a public comment or an open website message.

Ask what the finished service includes

Confirm whether the proposed job includes vehicle entry, a cut key, electronic setup and the relevant function checks. If keys may have been stolen, ask what changes are available for the old keys’ functions; do not assume that making a replacement automatically changes every access method. Our replacement-key service and programming page explain the starting information. Exact coverage and parts remain vehicle-specific.

Arrange the next step

Request an all-keys-missing assessment from WVC Locksmith and include your location. Say whether the vehicle can remain safely parked while the request is checked. Once replacement is arranged, consider a separately stored spare so a future loss has a simpler starting point.
